We will practice yoga and meditation, receive traditional Khmer blessings, and explore the natural environment in and around Phnom Penh, Kep and Siem Reap on this 12-day tour.

Day 2 Phnom Penh: City Tour

This morning take a tour of the Royal Palace, which to this day is still the royal residence. See the amazing royal collection and the beautiful architecture before heading to the National Museum, where you will be taken around by a trained museum guide who will show you some wonderful pre-Angkorean pieces as well as a number of special pieces from the temples. After your cultural morning, enjoy lunch at Friends, a restaurant benefiting at-risk street children.

After lunch you will be picked up by tuk tuk (motorbike powered rickshaw) to take in Cambodia’s new-era of architecture. Your guide for this tour is an architecture specialist, there to provide insight into the city’s inner core. Beginning post-independence in 1953, visionary architects focused on integrating a blend of international modern style with traditional materials to suit the local climate. Today these iconic works of “new Khmer architecture” are heralded throughout Southeast Asia. Vann Molyvann, one of Cambodia’s most prominent architects, applied the far reaching cultural and social vision of the time to his work and was the creator of Molyvann’s 100 Houses (social housing pro-gram), the Royal University of Phnom Penh campus and the National Sports Complex (Olympic stadium) all of which are visited as highlights of your afternoon. Enjoy a truly unique insight into Cambodia’s capital that will present the city from an entirely different viewpoint.

Using ancient yoga and meditation techniques, you will gain flexibility and physical balance through a practice of deep breathing and stretching exercises, practicing concentration and awareness, and meditation. You will have one yoga session in the morning and you will finish the day off with mediation in the afternoon. This evening, join Certified Health Coach Hanna Kokovai in the first session of a two part coaching series, Cultivating Your Best Self.

Day 6 Siem Reap: Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom: Sunrise to Sunset with Blessing Ceremony

Wake up early and head to Angkor Wat for sunrise and a morning tour of the temple before the crowds arrive. Your guide will take you to an active Wat where you should change to clothes you can get wet in as here you will experience the ceremony “Srouch Tec”, which roughly translates into “pour water”. A monk will chant in ancient Pali as he splashes water over you, washing away your sins and bad luck so you can start fresh and by being a good person can increase your good luck. Head back to your hotel mid-morning and spend some time relaxing through the heat of the day.

In the afternoon head to Angkor Thom, the famous walled city, and see the many temples within its borders, including the fascinating Bayon temple with its many magnificent faces smiling out. There are several beautiful spots from which to watch the sunset. Discuss with your guide where you would like to be and then relax and enjoy a memorable end to your day at the temples.

Day 7 Siem Reap: Sunrise Yoga, Banteay Srei, Other Temples and Landmine Museum

Serenity and wonder meets to start your day in Angkor with this unique wellness experience. Phnom Krom is a 9th century Angkorian temple located on top a hill, overlooking the Tonle Sap Lake. With the first rays of sunrise on Tonle Sap and the mystical ruins of Phnom Krom as backdrop, be guided through a series breathing techniques essential for deep meditation and for ‘’samadhi,’’ the path to self-realization. The practice of pranayama meditation brings about harmony among the body, mind and spirit, leaving you feeling energetic, enthusiastic and positive. Return to your hotel for breakfast.

This morning set off with your guide to Banteay Srei, the intricately carved temple located just 30km beyond Angkor Wat. Make a stop at the Land Mine Museum, a rather humble look at the land mine problem, past and present, in Cambodia. Here you will meet Sophary, a former JWOC scholarship student. After graduating university she became the first woman in a demining team in Cambodia. As you head back towards town you can stop at Banteay Kdei and Ta Prohm, two of the prettiest temples in the complex, where you can enjoy climbing through these smaller unique temples. Return to your hotel for lunch, or have your guide help you find a good place to eat in town. Remember to take a look at our Cheat Sheet which lists a number of our favorite restaurant recommendations!

Day 8 Siem Reap: Kulen Mountain Forest Discovery Trail

Today you will take a guided hike with Indochine Exploration through the protected Cambodian jungle of Phnom Kulen National Park. Located about an hour and a half north of Siem Reap, Phnom Kulen is home to a community-protected area of mainly intact evergreen and boulder forest. You will leave early in the morning for this forest that surrounds Preah Ang Thom, the largest community on the mountain. As you drive to the village, your guide will talk to you about how this conservation initiative involves local villagers who maintain the trails. By including them in the tour development, locals are provided with an income and therefore an incentive to help stop deforestation and leave the wildlife proper.

After arriving and walking through the village, the trail heads into the forest with the canopy high above providing shade even in Cambodia’s hottest months. Hike along the cleared trails, while you keep your eyes open for the wildlife that inhabits the area – in addition to the flying squirrels and birds, rare Silver Langurs were recently discovered in Kulen. After passing over a boulder passageway and through an active bat cave, you will stop for lunch along the banks of the Kulen River before heading back to Preah Ang Thom to visit Cambodia’s largest reclining Buddha, and if you still have energy, take in the beauty of the Kulen Waterfall.
