Settha Palace Hotel • Vientiane, Laos
Even though it is the oldest hotel in Vientiane, Settha Palace does not feel as if it was renovated and reopened in 2000. The hotel was originally built in 1930 and used as a private estate. The property boasts a beautifully landscaped exterior and an impressive first floor comprised of a grand foyer and lobby, private meeting room, cafe and bar, and gift shop. Guests find classic Colonial style ambiance throughout, with wood carved banisters, crown molding, and wainscoting, as well as high ceilings, vintage furnishings, and Turkish rugs. Settha Palace boasts the largest garden in Vientiane, a large spa facility with private changing and powder rooms, and a small gym facility. This hotel is a favorite for sophisticated guests who have a particular affinity for history.
Settha Palace is the oldest hotel in Vientiane and has a very interesting history as the hotel was turned into government housing during when the regime changed. Make sure to ask for a history tour if you stay here.
Not located directly in town center so would need to take a tuk tuk in the evenings.
The hotel do their airport pickups in a black London cab type of car. The staff is comprised of English, French, Lao, Thai, and Indonesian speakers to better accommodate their guests. Guests can reserve the meeting room in advance for private meals.
