Plain of Jars and Hilltribe Discovery Tour

Visit Luang Prabang to see the Wats and temples and the lovely scenery and then head out of town to the mysterious Plain of Jars. This trip will take you through stunning landscapes to one of the biggest mysteries in Asia, fields filled with huge earthen jars, thousands of years old. There is no definite explanation of what these jars were for, but many believe the fields are cemeteries and the jars held the remains of the dead. In this 6-day tour you will not only be amazed at the mysterious jars, but you will always remember the people and hill tribes you meet living on these same plains.

Day 1 - Arrive in Luang Prabang where you will be met at the airport and transferred to Le Caloa Inn. In the afternoon your guide will take you on a city tour including Phousi Mount, the National Museum, Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Visun, and Wat Sen.

Day 2 - After breakfast, take a longtail boat crossing to the right bank of the Mekong and the pottery making village of Ban Han. From here take a thirty minute walk to Wat Long Khoune village. Another boat will take you from here up river to the rice-wine distilling village of Ban Sang Hai followed by a visit to the Pak Ou caves, famous for its miniature statues of Buddha. Return to Luang Prabang by longtail boat in the late afternoon.

Day 3 - Take a seven hour drive along the mountainous road to Phonesavanh, home of the Plain of Jars. On the way visit some hill tribe villages of the Akha and Hamong. Check into your hotel in Phonesavanh and in the afternoon visit the Plain of Jars and the war relics in Muang Khoune District. Return to your hotel for dinner.

Day 4 - In the morning set off for Muang Khan District which is situated 75 kilometers east of Phonesavanh City. On the way visit the Hmong village of Ban Tha Joke, the Tam Piew historic cave, and the traditional Thai Dam, Lao Puane Villages. Spend the night at the Natural Hotsprings Resort.

Day 5 - Take a small trek up the mountain to visit hill tribe villages and the hidden Plain of Jars. Overnight stay at the Natural Hot Springs Resort.

Day 6 - Transfer to Phonesavanh airport for an afternoon flight to Vientiane connecting to Bangkok.
